Irland ist teuer, das weiß eigentlich jeder. Das billigste Dosenbier im Supermarkt kostet schon 1,29 €. Bars und Kneipen sind demenstprechend sau teuer. Ein Sandwich mir 3 Belägen ca. 4 bis 5 Euro. Eine kleine Pizza in der Mittagspause mindestens 9 Euro.. und so weiter.

Aber es gibt in den Vorstädten ja auch LIDL und ALDI dort oben. Und die Preise dort sind fast mit deutschen vergleichbar.

Wohnen ist auch recht teuer. Es gibt zwei Internetadressen und eine wichtige Tageszeitung: den Evening Echo! Der kommt gegen ein Uhr mittags raus und wird dann von Straßenverkäufern verkauft (Wer in Irland auf Wohnungssuche gehen wird, sollte sich diesen Namen auf jeden Fall merken!)

Wir haben (wie das alle irischen Studenten machen) eine Haus-WG gegründet. Meistens sind das also 5 bis 9 Leute. Wir waren zum Glück nur zu viert und kannten uns alle vorher schon. Die Häuser sind alt und modrisch. Wie sagte das eine Mpler letzt so treffend: „Irland ist für mich der Gruch nach feuchtem Teppich“?

Studenten werden auf diese Weise (Häuser-WGs) voll ausgebeutete und müssen in CIT und Uni-Nähe bis zu 95 Euro die Woche für ein Mini-Zimmer zahlen. Naj, geht auch anders, wir haben 900€ monatl. für das gesamte Bungalow bezahlt. Plus Strom. Wasser gibts in Irland „umsonst“ ^^

Man soll auch wunderbar Surfen können und es gibt tolle Sandstrände.

Home, sweet home. Since Tuesday I am back in Germany, enjoying to be with my family and friends and of course mama’s homecooking! I’m really glad to be home but I miss Cork and our Egmont (house) as you can imagine for sure. However, I was well received by my best friends and my sister which would welcome me at the airport.. with this banner below and a lot of cheers and shouting!

for all of you who missed this funny event St. Patrick’s! Me myself drove headlong into the bustle of the inner city of Cork. A nice little parade with all kinds of participating groups… like marching bands, Uni’s societies, basketball clubs, Charity clubs, a belly dancing group, Laurel and Hardy (Dick und Doof), Charlie Chaplin, Monster Spiders, Aliens, Smilies, fairy-tale’s Fujur the Dragon and a load of more creatures and marvelous costumes. ..for St Patrick’s Day: flaggs, batches, hats, feather boas, stickers, whistles.. and so on and so on! Magda and me, we did some hat testing and try-out at the 2€ Shop at Oliver Plunket Street and I am about to get myself one of those funny hats for next Saturday. Der große Tag! You will see me wearing it at the 20th of March as well I guess

It seems unbelievable difficult to find a place in Cork to have an irish coffey!

You will probably shake your head in disbelieve if I tell you my story of yesterday: Patric and I were linking up in the city centre to go drinking an irish coffey in one of those nice traditional pubs over here.

(Excursus: Irish coffey = coffey + irish whiskey + brown sugar + cream on top)
Well, we tried a pub near the bus station (full of men, watching sky sport and bundesliga results, btw: Mainz 05 is doing well as 14th of the table!). Especially for me as the only female person in that room it was very uncomfortable between all those elderly, Irish men. After several minutes waiting for the barkeeper to appear behind the bar we were told that he didn’t have cream. Irish coffey without cream? Naaah! So we put on our jackets again and moved on to the next pub, right around the corner.. this time we kept our jackets on and straightly went towards the bar. „Can we get 2 Irish coffeys please?“ – „Oh I don’t have cream, sorry.“ wtf!?

Well, third pub, same story. But at least the man from the third pub we went in offered to replace the cream with milk foam. We gently refused his offer and left and started to cris-cross the city until we finally stepped into a mouldy looking pub in the darkest street in city centre I can imagine But THEY actually had Irish coffey. With cream! And the inside of the pub was really cosy and nice. Yeeha. So that in the end it was worth the walk and dissapointments in the other pubs.

But anyway, it was a strange Irish coffey hunt, don’t you think?!

Dieses Wochenende habe ich Besuch aus Berlin!
Magda und Daniel sind bis Dienstag im Egmont-House, also bei uns daheim, zu Gast. Wir waren zusammen in Cashel, Cahir und in Cork unterwegs. Und meistens hatten wir sogar Glück mit dem Wetter. Hier ein paar Bilder von den Trips:

It was one of my new „Teilzeit-Berliner“ (part-time Berliner) tees. To be honest, I myself love these shirts and will soon order one for me too.

Galway & Trip through Connemara

17. – 19. 03.2007

an organised trip by the CIT (Cork Institute of Technology). We left Bishopstown on Saturday at 9 a.m. in a bus full of ca. 50 erasmus students. Most of them spanish or german but of course you could meet some other minorities nationalities as well! .. e. g. polish, finnish, indian etc.

It was a lot of fun and once arrived in Galway we often went out all together, joined (listened to) a trad session and traditional irish music. Jeff – so called Chjeff Koch – cooked a delicious Indian-tasty meal for all his roommates including me and Patric (8 in total). In the evening we would have a funny photo session at the harbour, forming the letters of GALWAY by our bodys, hands, scarfs and arms! See pic above..

On Monday, our last day up there, we were driven to the amazing and therefor very famous Cliffs of Moher. Were we made thousand of photographs (I won’t upoad them all) and wer nearly blown over the (new) fence!

Well, just have a look at the pictures and see what I have seen last week. Of course I have a loads of additional pictures on my PC as well. I look forward to showing them to you when I am back in Germany! (so soon)

20. März

Das habe ich (nach langem hin-und-her-überlegen) gestern gebucht. Hab mich echt 10 mal umentschieden (davon kann Patric euch ein Lied singen.. der arme..) und mich dann letztenendes für den St. Patricks Day entschieden. Der ist am Samstag, 17ter. Montag ist Public Hiloday und deswegen fliege ich dann am Dienstag früh nach Dublin und dann nachmittags weiter nach Frankurt Main! Und dann bin ich da! Bei euch! Daheim!

Freu mich schooooooooon

Eigentlich wollte ich das Bild hier ohne Kommentar reinstellen.. aber dann würde man denken, dass dieses Outfit hier eine Ausnahme war und wir deshalb das Foto geschossen hatten. Nein meine Lieben! Das ist leider nicht die Ausnahme, sonder eher die Regel. Dass die Mädels hier mit Fummel rumrennen, die ich eventuell unter meinen drei Lagen Shirt – Pulli – Mantel als Unterwäsche tragen würde! Und ich meine, ihr wisst ja mittlerweile alle, wie ungemütlich das Wetter hier in Irland ist. Dass ich aufpassen muss, nicht monatlich krank zu werden.. aber bei den kurzen Gürteln Röcken, die die Mädels hier tragen, wird mir echt schon beim hinsehen KALT. *brrrr* Gemein sowas, denn die kriegen noch nicht mal ne Blasenentzündung wenn sie damit ne halbe Stunde in der Schlange zum Club anstehn.. *kopfschüttel*
